Blissful Brides Editor’s Choice Award Winner 2025, ‘Wedding Essentials’: The Chinese Wedding Shop
2025-05-02
Blissful Brides is honoured to present The Chinese Wedding Shop as one of this year’s Editor’s Choice Award Winners under the Wedding Essentials category. It is no surprise that The Chinese Wedding Shop has retained this prestigious title consistently since 2016, cementing its well-deserved status as a cornerstone of the local wedding scene.
For The Orthodox: The Chinese Wedding Shop
Founded in 2009, The Chinese Wedding Shop has long taken pride in being the beacon that guides couples through the journey of attaining the ultimate traditional Chinese wedding. Their philosophy is simple yet profound: to preserve, celebrate, and promote the cherished heritage of Chinese wedding customs in an ever-modernising world.
If you haven’t already heard, The Chinese Wedding Shop is recognised as the leading authority on Chinese wedding customs in Singapore, and is a trusted name among couples, vendors, and, indeed, among us at Blissful Brides.
The Epitome of Convenience
Strategically located at AMK Jubilee Square, Bedok Town Centre, Parkway Parade, JEM and Jurong Point, The Chinese Wedding Shop ensures easy access for couples from all corners of the island.
As a true one-stop destination, the brand thoughtfully caters to couples of all dialect groups, offering a comprehensive and inclusive selection of ceremonial items to suit varying customs. From the Teochew to the Cantonese, Hokkien, and Hakka traditions, they’ve got it covered. With an extensive range of high-quality, carefully curated products, their aim is clear: to deliver the finest Guo Da Li experience possible for both sides of the family, no matter the variation in practice.
Typically, there are 5 main traditions that are observed in today’s Chinese wedding:
Betrothal Day

On this auspicious day, the groom formally delivers betrothal gifts, dowry money, and symbolic items such as the all-important Si Dian Jin to the bride’s family, signifying sincerity and respect. This ritual symbolises a formal proposal and is a vital bridge between both families.
Usually, the amount and quantity have already been discussed between the 2 families.
Some items prepared, such as the type of wedding biscuits, dragon and phoenix candles, the type of gold jewellery can vary depending on the couple’s dialect group, which is why The Chinese Wedding Shop’s dialect-specific packages are so valuable in taking the guesswork out of preparation.
Setting the Matrimonial Bed
As private and intimate as the bedroom may be, the act of preparing the matrimonial bed, or 安床 (an chuang), carries great symbolic weight. In the past, this involved scattering a mix of auspicious grains — like red dates, lotus seeds, and longans — on the bed to bless the marriage with fertility and abundance.
Today, the tradition has been adapted such that it is more convenient and acceptable for the young couple, in the form of nicely packed grains placed on a nice tray, along with other auspicious items in an Instagramable set-up in the bridal room.
The Chinese Wedding Shop offers complete packages for this ceremony, ensuring that every detail, from symbolism to presentation, is covered.
Hair Combing

An intimate pre-wedding ritual, the Hair Combing ceremony (梳头, shu tou) is steeped in well-wishing and meaning. Traditionally, it was conducted by married individuals of good fortune, symbolising the bestowal of blessings onto the soon-to-be-weds.
In modern practice, many couples choose to have their own parents perform the ceremony, infusing it with personal sentiment and familial affection. After all, who else holds a couple’s best interests at heart more deeply than their own parents? The Chinese Wedding Shop offers beautifully packaged Hair Combing Sets that come with all the necessary items and clear guidance, making it easier for families to embrace the ritual in a way that feels both meaningful and manageable.
Fetching the Beloved Bride
You have probably heard of gate-crashing. After all, it is the best part of the entire wedding process, at least for the bridesmaids.
On the morning of the wedding day, the groom and his best men will arrive at the bride’s place. There, they will have to complete a series of insufferable games (albeit humorous, at the expense of the men) in order to meet the bride. Usually, the bridesmaids have the final say in letting the groom meet the bride.
While it may seem like fun and games, it is rooted in cultural significance and has become a highlight of many modern Chinese weddings. The Chinese Wedding Shop offers accessories and props to make this part of the day even more memorable.
Tea Ceremony

Last but certainly not least, the Tea Ceremony (敬茶, jing cha) is an essential component of every Chinese wedding. This formal act of serving tea to both sets of parents and elder relatives is a deeply respectful tradition, symbolising gratitude and filial piety.
Couples traditionally kneel or bow as they offer tea, often with kneeling cushions provided to enhance comfort and ritual propriety. In return, elders may offer words of blessing, red packets, or jewellery. The Chinese Wedding Shop carries a variety of elegant Tea Ceremony sets and accessories to complete this important moment, helping couples honour their roots with grace and dignity.
Now that you’ve seen the many traditional practices that comprise a Chinese wedding, which, if not all, are you keen on preserving? The fantastic thing about The Chinese Wedding Shop is their thoughtfully designed, customisable packages that cater to each of these unique traditions.
