How-To: Involving Your Guests In Your Wedding

Your big day is just as exciting your guests as it is for you. With that in mind, it will be extremely heartwarming to honour the relationship you shared with them.

Be it an intimate garden wedding or an extravagant wedding ballroom celebration, extend your appreciation towards your guests by including them in the festivities – here are five simple ways to do so.

Let your guests have their say

Food is usually one of the most important guests attending your wedding. Apart from looking forward to your special union, they are bound to look forward to the banquet. If you’re having a hard time deciding what to include as part of your menu, include your guests in the decision-making!

If your wedding restaurant gives you the liberty to pick and choose your dishes, narrow down your choices with about two or three from each category and set up a poll for your guests to vote on. This way you know your guests will love the dishes without having to stress over which to pick. However, remember that you still have the final say and are free to make whatever changes you want.

Include the guests during your vows

After taking your vows during the ceremony, get the officiant to ask your guests a question to invoke a response from them. A question as simple as “do all of you promise to offer this couple your love, support and compassion?” to which your guests respond with “we do”. This simple act will portray just how much their presence means to the both of you on your special day and for the rest of your life.

Ring blessing

Before the ceremony starts, send your wedding bands down the aisle first to your guests. Allow the ring to be passed among the guests. Each time a guest is in possession of the ring should rub it and make a wish for your marriage.

However, this can be very time-consuming, especially so when you’re expecting a big crowd. An alternative is to place the pair of rings at the entrance. This way, upon entering your guests can “bless” the rings immediately.

Additionally, do remember to have someone watching the rings at all times!

Build a bouquet

Instead of having your bouquet premade by a florist, take a chance and walk down the aisle with a DIY bouquet with flowers from your guests. Inform your guests to bring a single flower of their choice to the wedding to contribute to your bouquet. This way you’ll be carrying a piece of each of them with to as you embark on your next phase of life. Alternatively, place a bunch of single stalks of flowers for your guests to choose from to pass to you.

Include more guests in your processional lineup

A typical procession includes a line of page boys, flower girls, parents of bride and grooms, bridesmaids and groomsmen. However, if you’d like to include more of your guests in, don’t hesitate! Instead of the usual lineup, consider including musically inclined guests to play their way down the aisle, dancers to hype up your entrance or maybe just get your favourite couples to walk down before you as a testament of love and marriage.

Whatever the means, include your guests into your wedding for a more inclusive and heartfelt celebration with your guests. This way your wedding day won’t just be another event in your guests’ life, but it will also hold a special place in their hearts.
