Following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, renown fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld passed away at the age of 85 on 19 February 2019. The creative genius behind Fendi’s incredible designs for 54 years, Lagerfeld is best known for his work at couture house, Chanel. Over the years, Lagerfeld has made it a point to end Chanel fashion shows with a wedding gown, turning the more traditional aspects such as lace and veils into bold statements.

His creations often turned the conventional on its head with a tiny wedding dress in 1993, punk bridal looks and most recently, a bridal swimsuit. In remembering this creative legend, we take a look at some of the celebrities who wore his designs at their weddings.

The singer had requested for Lagerfeld to design a dress for her wedding back in 2011. She then kept the exclusively designed dress as a secret, changing out of her Delphine Manivet gown in order to don it for her evening reception.

The star and the designer had an incredible working relationship beginning when she became the face of Coco Mademoiselle and later starred in several films revolving around Chanel. This tulle Chanel dress was later re-worn by Knightley at various events, proving that a good wedding dress can always be dusted off and worn again!

With the passing of this creative genius, it’s the end of an era in the fashion world, but wedding fashion and Chanel gowns will always bear the traces of Karl Lagerfeld’s artistic flair. The mark he has made on the fashion and wedding industry will remain long after his death.
