Valentine's Day Proposal Ideas

Dubbed as the most romantic day of the year, there is seemingly no better day to pop the big question other than on Valentine’s Day. It may be a cliché, but they are clichés precisely because they work, right?

If you’re looking for proposal ideas, here are some inspirations we hope will help. Most importantly, remember that it’s not the extravagance but the sentiment that counts.

For the romantic

Line the hallway of the venue with your photos attached to helium balloons. Have her walk down a balloon pathway and what does she find at the end of the aisle? You with the ring, of course. To amp up the romance, opt for some fairy lights or candles and include a handwritten note with each photo for an extra special touch.

Also, no Valentine’s Day is quite complete without flowers. Leave her a trail of rose petals or have them make a heart shape with you standing right in the middle. This is a classic and while it may not be out of the box, it will still be a pretty sight.

For the creative

Show her your effort with a box filled with your couple photos and handwritten notes. Throw her off by not placing the ring box as the final one. Replace it with something else instead and while she’s exclaiming over the box, get down on your knee and pop the question!

Take things up a notch with a 14-day lead up to your proposal. Surprise her with gifts everyday, with Valentine’s Day as the last. Start off with small gifts and proceed with bigger ones before saving the ring for the last. For an added romantic touch, try including the phrase “will you marry me?” into the gifts.

For the adventurous

If adventure is your sweetheart’s middle name, bring her her to iFly Singapore! Experience the flight of a lifetime and when it’s least expected, drop on a knee, mid-air, and ask her to fly with you for the rest of your lifetime. However, don’t forget to work it out with the staff beforehand.

Not that much of an adrenalin junkie? Propose with kites by customising them with phrases like “Will you marry me?”, “Be mine?” or similar messages. Bring her on a picnic at your favourite spot and either fly the kites by yourselves or get your family and friends involved by having them fly the kites instead!

The most important thing about any proposal is to plan one that suits your partner. Do not attempt a public setting proposal if she’s one who values moments like this to be private and vice versa.

Don’t forget to document the process from start to finish if you are able to, as this milestone will always be a sweet memory to look back on.
