5 Mistakes To Avoid When Gown Shopping

Your wedding gown will be one of the more important and difficult purchases of your life, especially since you’ll be wearing it on a very momentous day. Have fun and shop smart by not making these common gown shopping mistakes.

Bringing a crowd

Despite what you see on TV shows, bringing a crowd of people to the bridal shop with you is not a very good idea. Not only will their various individual opinions confuse you, but this might also result in you second guessing your choices and leave you confused. You might also succumb to the pressure of selecting a dress you don’t like just to get everyone’s approval.

Instead, you should only bring about 2 or 3 more people with you. In this case, the less the better. Bring along people who have your best interest at heart and will be honest about how you look in each gown.

Starting too early

Gown shopping can be an exciting experience, however starting too early is a mistake that you do not want to be making. When it comes to shopping for your gown, it’s best to start at least 8 to 10 months before your wedding and not any earlier than that.

Before you start looking for your gown, ensure the other factors such as location has been finalised. This will give you a better idea on the kind of dress you should be looking for.

Being inflexible

If you have been dreaming about your wedding dress as a child and already have a dream idea of what you want, you might not be willing to explore other options. Doing this will definitely limit the chances of finding the dress for you. Grab the gown you’ve always wanted and at the same time give the other dresses a chance.

You might even find one that fits you better than you could have imagined.

Trying on dresses over your budget

While going dress shopping is the adult version of playing dress-up, there are some things you must always keep in mind, specifically your budget. As you will be trying on several gowns, try to steer clear of gowns that are over your budget. This is to save yourself from overspending as well as save yourself from possible disappointment and over expectations.

For example, if you were to try on a dress that is over your budget and if you happen to fall in love with it, you will be left with 2 choices. You will either have to overspend and get that dress or settle for something else. If you choose the latter, no other dress might live up to or compare with the first dress while if you choose the former, your whole wedding budget might be affected because of this.

Getting the wrong size

You might already be underway with your bridal body workout plan. However, you should still get a dress that is your current size. If you do manage to achieve the body, shape or size you want for your wedding, you can always alter your dress. Do not risk it all by getting a smaller size and finding yourself not being able to fit into the dress after all.
