Man-gagement Rings: Yay Or Nay?

Man-gagement Rings: Yay Or Nay?

Following Ed Sheeran his new bling (lovingly handmade by his fiancée Cherry Seaborn), one may begin to wonder if this will inspire more men to don engagement rings. While the engagement ring is traditionally seen a symbol worn by a bride to-be, we don’t see why a groom can’t don the ring.

While engagement rings are mostly marketed and created for women, there are a select few that are made for men. Known as the man-gagement ring. Designed for men, this ring functions exactly like an engagement ring for the ladies. A symbol of availability, this man-gagement ring can also be seen as a symbol of an equal relationship. After all, an engaged couple does not only require the commitment of the lady, right?

Man-gagement rings are not a common sight and there are a few reasons behind this. One could be because the trend hasn’t exactly gained traction. In fact, man-gagement rings may be regarded as a feminine trend. While being different is encouraged, not everyone may accept or welcome it. However, with celebrities such as Ed Sheeran and Michael Bublé putting a ring on their fingers, man-gagement rings may just become the new norm.

Norms aside, cost could also be another factor why the man-engagement ring hasn’t exactly taken flight. While one engagement ring is enough to burn a hole in one’s pocket, imagine the cost for two. That said, man-gagement rings are, thankfully, not nearly as elaborate as those for the ladies. As most grooms to-be would presumably opt for something simpler, a man-engagement ring shouldn’t set one back too much. Plus, it’ll be fun to have the ladies purchase the rings. Better yet, go ahead and propose to your man if you so wish!

Though there may still be a long way to go, we might possibly see more and more men donning man-gagement rings. Would you and your partner be open to man-gagement rings?
