How-To: Wearing Your Engagement Ring During the Wedding Ceremony

While some brides may choose to omit their engagement rings from their big day, some may opt to stack their wedding jewellery. There are no right or wrong answers in this situation, but here are three ways to wear your engagement ring on your big day.

To the Right

An engagement ring traditionally goes on the left ring finger, where the wedding band is meant to be worn. It’s believed that your wedding band should go on the ring finger (the fourth finger) as there’s a vein that leads directly to your heart. While not proven, this sentiment prompted us to believe that the wedding band should always go on first to ensure it’s closest to the heart. Some brides may consider shifting the engagement ring to the ring finger on the right to minimise any confusion and ensure the wedding band is placed in its proper position.

No Change

While others may simply opt to leave the engagement band on the left ring finger. When its time to don the rings, the wedding band can simply sit above the engagement ring and be shifted below at a more appropriate time. However, this option is not favoured by some as the sparkle from the diamond engagement rings may overshadow the simple cut of your wedding band.

Don’t Wear it

To eliminate any confusion or panic on your big day, you may also choose not to wear your engagement ring. This way, you won’t have to constantly worry about the etiquette surrounding it. Or, worry about its safety, if you choose to leave it in the hands of a family member or friend. If you rather be safe than sorry, this may just be the perfect option for you.
