Now that you’ve decided on the perfect gown, we recommended taking some time to decide on the hairstyle that best complements your look. As such, the team at Blissful Brides has compiled a list of bridal hair dos and don’ts, to help you strut down the aisle in comfort and confidence.

DOS:

1. Pamper Your Hair

In order for your look to shine through, your hair has to be in its best condition. Similar to having a skincare regime, pamper your locks to reduce frizzy/dry hair. Having healthy hair will allow the hairdresser to better achieve your desired your style, so don’t sleep on the hair products!

2. Talk to the Hair Stylist

Before deciding on a hairstyle, do consult your hair stylist to see how it can best complement the overall look. For instance, a gown with a detailed neckline will go great with an updo, while an off-shoulder gown can be complemented with some curls.

3. Compare

Taking photos during your trial will allow you to have an idea of how you will look in actual photographs. You can also use this opportunity to figure out your best angle in this hairstyle. This way, you will be able to cover all bases by ensuring your hairstyle looks great both in reality and during the actual day wedding photography.

4. Be Comfortable

While the hairstyles may look Pinterest worthy, it is important that you feel comfortable with the hairdo. The last thing you’d wish for is to spend the big day worrying about your hair instead of enjoying yourself – so bear this in mind when deciding on the hairstyle!

DON’TS:

1. Opt for a Drastic Makeover

The ultimate don’t for a bride-to-be is to go for a drastic hair makeover months or weeks leading up to the wedding. As tempted as you may be to try out a new look, we say to resist the temptation. While we are all for a new look, not every lady is capable of pulling off the pixie cut. Better to be safe than sorry, y’know?

2. Assume What Your Stylist is Thinking

Never assume that your hair stylist knows what you’re thinking. Though they may seem straightforward, your stylist and you may have different definitions for certain terms like “soft waves” or “messy bun”.  Instead, create a hair mood board and provide them with visual examples, to minimise misunderstandings and disappointments.

3. Be Close-Minded

While we are not for drastic makeovers, don’t be afraid to give something new a try. For all you know, a messy bun may turn out better than a flower crown.

4. Shampoo Your Hair

Shampooing your hair before meeting your stylist is a no-no. Instead, wash your hair the day before. A wash the day before will prep your hair for the big day as hair strands tend to be more pliable and shiny the day after a shampoo session. However, shampooing your hair on the day off may result in dry hair and be hard to work with. In place of washing your hair on the actual day, brush your hair to distribute the natural oils to the ends of your hair.
