Proposal
We used to be classmates in secondary school.
During our fourth year, we became close friends and would frequent Bras Basah
Complex for art materials. During National Day the following year, we went to
see the fireworks together and I held her hand. That is when our romance
started.
Our
courtship began with daily phone calls and texts. We would buy breakfast for
each other and put it under each other’s tables. I can also fondly recall the
time when Jennifer wrote me letters while I was serving National Service in
Pulau Tekong. To this day, I still keep and treasure those letters.
I
proposed to her during our trip to Hong Kong Disneyland. It was our first
overseas trip as a couple and I pretended it was for her birthday celebration
to surprise her. During the fireworks at night, I knelt on one knee and asked
for her hand in marriage. Without hesitating, she said, “Yes”. As we had dated
for a total of 10 years, we decided it would be fitting to ROM on the 100th
month mark of our relationship.
Bride’s Style
We specifically wanted a gown
that was simple, comfortable and pretty, all at the same time. Thus, we browsed
through the collections by Bliss Bridal to find the perfect piece. Jennifer
tried on so many gowns that we lost count of them, but our perseverance paid
off and she finally found a beautiful dress that fit her flawlessly.
Reception
Our criteria for the reception venue was that it
would be able to hold at least 50 banquet tables and have no pillar blockage. A
few hotels were able to fulfill these conditions but we were won over by Marina
Mandarin because of the great service. The event manager, Fiona Lee, was very
accommodating to our needs and requests. We were well taken care of on the
wedding day and truly felt like royalty.
We settled for a ‘sweet blossoms’ theme and
used red and pink roses. The crimson coloured blooms symbolised love, courage
and passion and created a romantic ambience.
As for food, we had an 8-course dinner that
was only slightly altered from the original menu. We loved the mango sago with
ice cream; it was certainly a refreshing alternative to the usual yam
dessert.
We received great feedback from our guests,
especially in regards to our photographer, whose fun and cheerful personality
made photo-taking a breeze. The food and service was just splendid and made our
wedding a day to remember.
Memorable Moments
An entertaining morning gate crash video that
featured the famous ‘Gangnam Style’ dance choreography, was played during
dinner. It turned out to be a huge hit with our guests. It was so much fun to
watch, and seeing our loved ones smiling and laughing away made the day so worthwhile.
Also, the fact that all our friends and family attended our wedding dinner on a
Monday evening made us feel extraordinarily blessed.
